How does Melatrin Cream work?

• Fluocinolone is a mild corticosteroid that reduces inflammation
• Hydroxyquinone is a depigmenting agent that interrupts the formation and synthesis of melanin to help lighten the skin
• Tretinoin works by increasing the skin cell turnover rate, which helps exfoliate the skin

Side Effects of Melatrin Cream

Possible side effects of Melatrin Cream include mild to moderate redness, peeling, burning, dryness, or itching of the skin. Severe allergic reactions are rare but can occur.

Quick Suggestions:

• Always apply this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
• Gently wash your face with a mild cleanser
• Don’t use a washcloth to apply the cleanser, just use your fingers
• Rinse and pat your skin dry
• Apply at night, at least 30 minutes before bedtime
• Put a small amount (pea-sized or 1/2 inch or less) of Melatrin Cream on your fingertip
• Apply a thin coat onto the discolored spot(s). Include about 1/2 inch of normal skin surrounding the affected area
• Rub the medicine lightly and uniformly into your skin
• The medicine should become invisible almost at once
• If you can still see it, you are using too much
• Keep the medicine away from the corners of your nose, your mouth, eyes, and open wounds. Spread it away from those areas when applying it
• Do not cover the treated area with anything after applying
• If your skin gets too irritated, stop using Melatrin Cream, and let your doctor know
• To help avoid skin dryness, you may use a moisturizer in the morning after you wash your face
• You may also use a moisturizer and cosmetics during the day
• Use a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 and a wide-brimmed hat over the treated areas. If you get sunburned, stop using Melatrin Cream until your skin is healed

Indications:

Fluocinolone Acetonide + Hydroquinone + Tretinoin is indicated for the short-term treatment of moderate to severe melasma of the face, after starting the treatment avoid the presence of the sun. Use a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 or more.

Pharmacology

Hydroquinone + Tretinoin + Fluocinolone acetonide is a combination of three medicines: Hydroquinone, Tretinoin, and Fluocinolone acetonide. These medications are used to treat melasma, which are dark spots on the skin.

• Hydroquinone is a skin-lightening agent that works by reducing the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for darkening the skin.
• Tretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A that promotes the renewal of skin cells, helping to improve the appearance of the skin and reduce pigmentation.
• Fluocinolone acetonide is a corticosteroid that acts by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers called prostaglandins. This helps to reduce redness, swelling, and itching of the skin.

Together, these three medications work synergistically to lighten dark spots, promote skin renewal, and reduce inflammation, providing effective treatment for melasma.

Dosage & Administration of Melatrin Cream

Apply Melatrin Cream once daily at night, at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Cleanse the face and neck gently, pat dry, and apply a thin film of the cream to hyperpigmented areas of melasma, including a small margin of normal skin surrounding each lesion. Sunscreen and protective clothing should be worn during the day, and moisturizers and cosmetics can be used.

Interaction

Avoid using medicated or abrasive soaps, high-alcohol products, or keratolytic medications simultaneously with Melatrin Cream. Additionally, avoid using photosensitizing drugs concurrently.

Contraindications

Melatrin Cream is contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity, allergy, or intolerance to the product or any of its components.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Melatrin Cream is classified as Pregnancy Category C due to the presence of tretinoin, which may cause adverse effects on fetal development. Caution is advised, and the potential benefits should outweigh the risks when used during pregnancy or lactation.

Precautions & Warnings

Talk to your doctor before using this medicine, if you:

• Are allergic to Fluocinolone, Hydroquinone Tretinoin, or any of the ingredients in this medicine
• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine

Storage Conditions:

• Store at room temperature (15-25ºC)
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
• Keep out of reach of children
